Since 1938, the Seafarers’ International Union of Canada (SIU) has supported rated seafarers working on the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence River, and Canada’s coasts. The union advocates for fair labour standards, enforces Canadian cabotage laws, and fights for safe working conditions and fair wages while protecting Canadian shipping interests.
The SIU approached us to create a recruitment website separate from its main site. The goal was to give prospective recruits a better understanding of the union and life at sea, with an engaging, accessible resource that speaks to the next generation of maritime professionals. The result is a polished, user-friendly website that helps introduce visitors to a career in seafaring.
The primary goal of the website was to showcase the SIU’s values and what life as a seafarer means. It serves as a communication touchpoint, offering key information and clear ways to connect with the union. The site is designed to inspire and inform potential recruits, highlighting the rewards and pride that come with a seafaring career.
Subtle nautical patterns and a dark colour palette create visual impact while reflecting the SIU’s maritime roots. Carefully chosen photography offers a glimpse into the experiences and responsibilities of life at sea, as well as the pride that comes with the work. Together, these elements reflect the professionalism and purpose at the heart of the organization.
