The Ontario Federation of All-Terrain Vehicle Clubs (OFATV) launched a campaign to reshape public perception of ATV riding in Ontario. The objectives were clear: to portray their clubs as stewards of responsible, safe, and environmentally conscious ATV trail management. Moreover, they aimed to foster harmonious relationships between ATV riders, nature, and local communities.

To meet these goals, OFATV approached us to design a campaign grounded in four key objectives. First, to educate and inform—dispelling misconceptions and myths surrounding ATV riding by highlighting commitments to safety, legality, and environmental stewardship. Then, to promote safe riding practices through messaging around training, gear, and trail rules. Next, to spotlight environmental efforts, showing how sustainable trail management protects Ontario’s natural habitats. Lastly, to build community by encouraging collaboration among riders and strengthening shared values across the network.

RESPONSIBLE.

The OFATV Play/Smart campaign sets out to redefine the narrative surrounding ATV riding in Ontario. With bold energy, the campaign uses OFATV’s signature orange to spark attention, signal urgency, and embody the enthusiasm of the riding community. Consequently, its bright palette invites curiosity while supporting strong, memorable messaging. Visual elements such as photography, custom graphics, and illustrative touches add depth and clarity. Each photo was selected to reinforce the campaign’s four goals. For example, riders wearing helmets and proper safety gear reinforce responsibility and preparedness. Trail images show riders respecting the rules and the land. Meanwhile, scenes of wildlife conservation—like turtle crossings and protected forest paths—underscore the importance of preserving Ontario’s habitats.

In tandem, graphic treatments and icons help simplify complex ideas and highlight key behaviours. Paired with consistent, straightforward language, the OFATV Play/Smart campaign delivers a clear and engaging message: that safe, respectful ATV riding benefits everyone. Together, this unified system brings safety, stewardship, and community pride into a campaign that invites every rider to enjoy Ontario’s trails with purpose and care.
