Our primary objective was to deliver a new website that showcases the Foundation as a leading-edge, professional institute – a site that would solidify their status as a credible resource for legal professionals who are pioneering Canadian laws. We updated the look and feel, giving it a fresh, contemporary interface. Our team ensured that the design highlighted essential calls to action – especially applying for grants or the Walter Owen Book Prize – allowing for a more straightforward, visually intuitive user experience.
Because the website is content-rich and features many lists, we used bold, contrasting typography to establish a visual hierarchy and break up the walls of text. This approach also highlights the right blend of white space and pockets of colour created through hover state animations. Our team incorporated design flourishes in the navigation, as well as geometric line art in the background (featuring unique layouts on each main page), giving the site a unique character and reinforcing the new look and feel.
We included an in-depth modular content management system on the website, enabling the Foundation to edit their content easily. This function is especially crucial in the grant recipients and Walter Owen Book Prize awardees sections, which require frequent updates. The functionality we implemented makes it possible for the Foundation to add new recipients while maintaining a well-organized archive of previous winners.
