Conor Maynard is a pop singer and songwriter from England. He rose to fame after winning MTV’s Brand New for 2012 award, and needed a 40-foot stage backdrop for his 2013 international festival tour, as he would be performing across Europe and North America.
He needed a 40-foot backdrop banner that would encompass the atmosphere of the tour, while having the capacity to be highly functional in various applications.
Stage banners need to be clear and distinguishable from multiple angles and distances in various venues and adapt well within a multitude of lighting conditions and stage formations. They perform best with minimal text and punchy graphics, highlighting the performer’s brand.
As a breakout artist, Conor’s visual brand had been modest and tastefully executed thus far. We designed this banner design to magnify his existing image while building a compelling appearance for his on-stage presence as he would grow and evolve as a performer. To excite his fans and the public, we created the banner with Conor’s brand and persona in mind.
For the 40-foot banner design, we incorporated a recent promotional photo of the singer and layered it with textures, gradients, and transparencies to create depth and dynamism. The banner would sit behind Conor at different venues and take advantage of stage lighting to emphasize and accentuate each song’s theme and set. We used black for its versatility and the benefit it provided to stage photography over a white banner.
The design was used at multiple heights in various stage environments and lighting situations and was seen by millions of people.
Conor Maynard’s backdrop banner’s versatility helped him communicate his brand to an audience of millions of people and enhanced the visual design at his shows during his international tour.
