Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) is Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology laboratory. They are world leaders in developing peaceful and innovative applications from nuclear technology, and addressing global issues across the nuclear life cycle.
CNL is committed to ensuring that Canadians and the world receive energy, health and environmental benefits from nuclear science and technology with confidence in their safety and security.
CNL required a corporate kitfolder to communicate information about their organization and its ongoing developments. The kitfolder would be designed to house information about their research and advancements through a range of complementary two-pagers such as data sheets, case studies and other hi-level documents.
We designed a custom three-panel kitfolder with a unique die-cut cover, developing a visual theme based on their corporate brand and colour palette. Layering transparent blocks of colour over imagery of laboratory equipment creates depth and communicates technology. We integrated a directional pattern into the design to convey a feeling of advancement and development.
The kitfolder cleanly summarizes their corporate purpose and top priorities with a distinct hierarchy of text, and highlights engaging facts about their organization within large circles. We used their corporate colour palette to accentuate pointed tabs across the design, each representing one of their four program areas of research and development. The tabs continue the feeling of movement and progression, and create an identifiable motif that can be implemented as a theme throughout their other related materials.
We transitioned the design into a series of editable templates for CNL’s use in the development of their information packages. We created various header images to visually distinguish the program areas, and integrated design features from the kitfolder to create a strong family appearance across the materials.
This project yielded a professional and efficient corporate communications package. The templates are visually dynamic and easy for CNL staff to populate and update. The collection of materials is cohesive and creates a practical and effective method for CNL to communicate its advancements in nuclear science and technology.
