The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) is a non-profit organization that represents Canada’s nuclear industry. They promote the development and growth of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes.
We worked with the CNA on a rebranding initiative, and they called on us again to develop a multi-purpose kit folder to be handed out at conferences and public trade shows. The kit folders would contain a wide range of bilingual communications materials conveying the CNA’s corporate objectives.
Building on the new brand we’d recently developed, our team made sure that the folder reflected the CNA’s logo and was adaptable enough to serve as a baseline for future designs. The curves of the main flaps mimic the logo’s curvature while bringing a distinct look to the folder. The photographic backgrounds evoke imagery of cleanliness and peace, two key themes of the CNA. The dot patterns add visual texture and make for impactful, dynamic design. The left side of the folder is used for low-volume periphery and includes a slot for business cards. The right side houses numerous brochures, pamphlets, reports or informational booklets.
Also, the kit folder features a dedicated slot for the CNA’s annual Factbook. We made sure that the slot could accommodate various Factbook formats – for example, the 2017 edition was spiral bound, while the 2018 version was perfect bound.
We designed the kit folder with longevity in mind. That meant conducting in-depth and vigorous tests on our initial designs. We created small-, half- and full-scale models to identify and resolve any potential issues. Our team diligently analyzed and addressed weak/tear points, typically by changing the shape or angle of the die-cut. We were also mindful of ergonomics and took steps to ease the process of inserting or removing items. We carefully chose the paper stock, taking into account strength, rigidity, flexibility, weight and expense.
We delivered a successful and functional design for the kit folder, providing the CNA with a flexible asset for delivering their communications materials.
