The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) is committed to promoting the development and growth of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes. Two of the initiatives it employs to reach that goal are TeachNuclear and TalkNuclear.
TeachNuclear is an online resource that provides engaging, fact-based lesson plans and resources for high school teachers and students. Its content was created in collaboration with leading Canadian scientists and with education ministries across Canada. TalkNuclear is a blog that focuses on significant environmental, economic and medical social issues. It is used across all of the CNA’s social media channels.
The CNA wanted us to find a way to brand both of these initiatives in a way that would make them stand out as their own, yet associate them with the organization's overall identity.
We treated the TeachNuclear and TalkNuclear logos as if they were children of the CNA logo. We incorporated similar elements from their parent brand and used them to communicate a more specific message. For TeachNuclear, we used the green swirl from the CNA logo to form a book, capturing the idea of learning. For TalkNuclear, we played on the CNA’s dots, making them grow larger as they go from left to right, implying both growth and increasing knowledge. The blue swirl forms a speech bubble, conveying the notion of discussion and conversation.
In this way, the TeachNuclear and TalkNuclear logos succeed in having their own identities – each projecting individual messages in a fun, appealing way – while maintaining their relationship to the CNA brand.
We applied the logos to each initiative’s online presence. The TeachNuclear identity was integrated on the website and throughout the educational material and branded lesson plans. The identity was also implemented throughout the CNA’s social media channels, as well as their branded blog. French versions of both logos were produced.
Understanding how energy is produced and used, and what its impacts are, has become increasingly significant for everyone. TeachNuclear and TalkNuclear are leading tools in fostering a learning environment and promoting thoughtful discussion about energy. We’re proud that the identities we created for these initiatives are helping to bring the conversation to the forefront.
