The Canadian Foundation for Legal Research (CFLR) supports legal professionals by funding high-quality writing and research. Their work plays a key role in shaping legal thinking across Canada. As the legal field grows more complex, the Foundation remains focused on advancing clear, evidence-based insights that support legal practice and policy.
To support that mission, the Canadian Foundation for Legal Research needed a refreshed identity. The goal was to reflect professionalism and credibility while conveying forward-thinking values. They also required a consistent visual system across key touch points—beginning with the CFLR stationery design. This collateral needed to feel intelligent, clear, and adaptable.
The Foundation wanted their new stationery to align with their refined identity and reflect their dedication to clarity, innovation, and trust. With this in mind, we approached the CFLR stationery design with purpose, developing a flexible system of geometric bars and clean line shapes that complement the modern logo. These abstract elements, resembling puzzle pieces, subtly reference the evolving and interconnected nature of Canadian law. As a result, they bring structure and energy to every detail while also echoing the Foundation’s forward-thinking spirit.
This visual motif appears consistently across letterheads, business cards, labels, and presentation templates, all unified by a carefully curated colour palette that balances professionalism with moments of vibrancy. In addition, clean layouts, sharp typography, and thoughtful spacing allow the Foundation’s messaging to shine without distraction, creating materials that feel approachable yet authoritative. Ultimately, every detail reflects a commitment to clarity and an evolving legal landscape, resulting in a stationery system that feels confident, cohesive, and ready to support everything from daily correspondence to formal submissions and presentations.
